CFB boilers suffer erosion and corrosion severely, because of the particles and chemicals produced in coal powder combustion, particularly the water wall tube panels. The water wall panel life is only 2-3 years because of the erosion and corrosion, after this period the leakage will happen frequently and the boiler fails, which needs to be repaired.
The surface weld overlaycladding with MIG (Metal insert gas) welding technique and/or laser deposition technique has been extensively used to improve the boiler life cycle.
